Melanie Henry serves as the Conservatory’s Double Reed instructor. She is also instrumental in serving the Choctawhatchee Band students through a partnership with the Conservatory.
Ms. Henry began her career in music at Pryor Middle School. As an honor graduate from Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach, she was actively involved in extracurricular programs to include academic honors clubs, service organizations, and the infamous Choctawhatchee Style Marchers. She was acknowledged for her exceptional musicianship by receiving 6 appointments as a member of the Okaloosa All-County Band and 5 selections as member of the Florida All- State Band.
She began performing professionally with the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra at 13 years of age. While attending the University of Southern Mississippi, Ms. Henry served as principle oboist in the USM Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra and played various instruments in the Pride of Southern Mississippi Marching band.
In addition to obtaining a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies, Southern Miss assisted Ms. Henry in the expansion of her professional resume by facilitating membership in the Meridian Symphony, Mississippi Symphony, Mobile Symphony and Pensacola Symphony Orchestras. Performances with renowned musicians such as Yo- Yo Ma, Ray Charles, Placido Domingo, Allan Feinberg and the Italian Army Band amongst many others has indubitably provided her with unequivocal lifetime experiences. She is both honored and excited for the opportunity to share her passion for performance and musicianship with others.
