Jenese serves as a Woodwind Instructor at Grow Your Gift Conservatory of Music concentrating in clarinet, saxophone, and flute.
She received a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance from the University of Central Florida studying under Dr. Keith Koons. Her experience on clarinet spans 29 years with 18 of those being an instructor. Mrs. Harvey began playing saxophone in her high school jazz band under the direction Mr. Randal Nelson and Ms. Nancy Thiele at Choctawhatchee High School. After earning her Music degree, she moved back home to Fort Walton Beach, FL, where she developed her skills on flute studying under Robin Horne at North West Florida State College.
Prior to pursuing her music degree, Mrs. Harvey was awarded superior ratings performing solos and in ensembles, earned placement in the Okaloosa All-County Middle and High School Honor Bands, and the All-South honor band held at the University of Southern Mississippi.
While earning her music degree at UCF, she performed in solo recitals, Clarinet Choir, Early Music Ensemble (soprano, alto, & tenor recorder), Symphony Orchestra (Eb, Bb, A, & Bass clarinet), and Wind Ensemble (Eb & Bb clarinet) becoming principal clarinet her senior year. She was chosen by her Professor Dr. Koons to substitute perform in concert with the Orlando Philharmonic and Brevard Symphony Orchestra. In 2001, prior to graduation, Mrs. Harvey began teaching her first private lesson students.
Her performances in the area include The Playground Big Band (saxophone), a substitute performance with the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra (Eb clarinet), Christian Symphonic Band (Clarinet & Saxophone), Joe Occhipinti German Band, and the Emerald Coast Community Band.
Many of Mrs. Harvey’s students perform and excel at Solo & Ensemble festival, and earn placement in All-County, Tri-state Band Festival and All-State Honor Bands. She prepares her students for auditions into summer music camps, college ensembles, and music scholarships. Interested students also receive help learning to double on other woodwind instruments to play in jazz, concert, and/or marching band.
Currently, Mrs. Harvey performs with the Emerald Coast Community Band, teaches private lessons, and volunteers with local school band programs. In addition to her busy performance schedule, she is the wife of a tuba player and mother to two sons; a percussionist and a trumpet player. If that weren’t enough, she also graciously serves in an integral role as a Pryor Middle and Choctaw High Band Parent.
